According to The Wall Street Journal, Meta is seeking to collaborate with Hollywood to acquire exclusive content for its high-end virtual reality headset planned for release next year. Sources familiar with the matter have revealed that the tech company has been in discussions with entertainment brands such as Disney and A24, as well as some smaller production companies. Meta is willing to invest millions of dollars to purchase series or standalone immersive video content based on well-known intellectual properties. Meta hopes that this content will entice consumers to purchase its virtual reality device, which is set to compete with Apple's VisionPro. This new device, internally codenamed 'Loma', is more powerful than the current Meta Quest virtual reality headsets on the market, with higher video fidelity. Its design resembles a pair of large glasses, more akin to Meta's Ray-Ban AI glasses rather than the goggles used by Quest and VisionPro, and it connects to a small device that users can keep in their pockets. According to some insiders, Meta plans to price this device at under $1,000, which is higher than the Quest's starting price of $300 but lower than the VisionPro's base price of $3,500.
