🇺🇸 President Donald Trump signed a decree to increase tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from 25% to 50% — The White House
The measure will take effect on June 4 and, judging by statements, is aimed at protecting national security and the domestic industry of the USA.
The tariffs only apply to the content of steel and aluminum in goods.
Supplies from the United Kingdom remain at the previous rate (25%) until July 9.
Control over the accurate declaration of composition has been strengthened: violations will result in fines and revocation of import rights.
US authorities state that the tariffs will strengthen the positions of national producers, reduce dependence on imports, and create incentives for reindustrialization.
