TRUMP TO REMOVE ARCTIC OIL DRILLING LIMITS
The Trump administration is moving to reverse restrictions put in place by the Biden administration on oil drilling across much of Alaska’s extensive oil reserves, which are believed to hold around 8.7 billion barrels of recoverable oil.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum revealed the proposed policy shift on Sunday evening during a town hall meeting in Utqiagvik, along the Chukchi Sea coast. The announcement came as he and several other officials from President Donald Trump’s administration visited Alaska to highlight efforts supporting energy development in the area.
This decision would pave the way for expanded oil and gas operations in the Alaska National Petroleum Reserve—a 23-million-acre region, about the size of Indiana, in northwest Alaska that was originally set aside as an energy resource for the U.S. Navy nearly 100 years ago.
