Swiss Businessman to Surrender in Shocking New York Crypto Torture Case
A second man involved in a terrifying crypto kidnapping case in New York is expected to turn himself in. He’s a Swiss businessman and co-founder of a trading company. This follows the arrest of Joel Woeltz, also known as the “Crypto King of Kentucky.”
🧨 Torture for a Seed Phrase
The victim, Teofrasto Carturan, a wealthy Italian crypto investor, was worth about $30 million. He came to New York on May 6 to meet “business partners,” but was instead kidnapped and tortured for 17 days. The kidnappers wanted the seed phrase to access his crypto wallet.
They tied him up in a luxury Soho apartment, shocked him with electricity, forced him to smoke drugs, and even pointed a gun at his head. It was all done to try and steal his crypto.
🏃 Escape Caught on Video
On May 23, Carturan escaped barefoot and ran to a traffic officer for help. The police arrested Woeltz the same day. The Swiss businessman may already be in custody or is about to surrender.
⚠️ Crypto Can Be Dangerous
This case shows the risks of being openly wealthy in crypto. Seed phrases are powerful — and in the wrong hands, deadly.
