Bitlayer just took a major step forward by winning support from top Bitcoin mining pools: Antpool, F2Pool, and SpiderPool together holding 31.5% of the network’s power. Their backing helps Bitlayer run BitVM, a new system that allows smart contracts on Bitcoin without changing its core code.
BitVM works like Ethereum rollups: smart contracts run off-chain but are verified on-chain. This could open doors for new apps on Bitcoin and bring miners extra income as block rewards shrink. It’s early days, but this support signals that Bitcoin’s future may soon include smart contracts.
