The government of Argentina officially dissolved the Task Investigation Unit (UTI) related to the memecoin Libra scandal. The decree was signed by President Javier Milei and Minister of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona. The document states that the UTI achieved the objectives for which it was created and that the evidence was handed over to the prosecutors.

It is important to mention that, following the publication of Official Bulletin 332/2025, no details were provided regarding the findings of the investigation. In this sense, it is unknown what evidence and information this special unit delivered. It is worth remembering that the commission was created in February by the government itself to self-investigate the alleged fraud linked to the Libra token.

The Argentine president promoted the Libra currency on his social media and presented it as a serious project. This caused thousands of people to invest in the token, which led to a sharp rise in its value. Subsequently, the wallets behind the project executed massive sell-offs ('dumping') worth millions of dollars, triggering a collapse in price and substantial losses for investors.

This is a large-scale scandal that affects the government's image. The president himself tried to address the issue in an interview, but subsequent leaks revealed a manipulation in the development of the dialogue with the journalist, making the case even more uncomfortable.

What will happen with the case of the memecoin Libra?

For the moment, there is no clarity about the final outcome of this controversy. Some local media critical of the government describe the case as a sequence of blunders. This refers to the idea that each official action seems to further aggravate the situation.

Meanwhile, supporters of President Milei claim that no premature conclusions should be drawn. They argue that it is necessary to wait for the results of the investigation led by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Although the scandal of the memecoin Libra seems to fade over time, its seriousness remains intact. The case involves defrauded investors, critics from both the right and the left, and international actors linked to the project. Together, all these elements further complicate the situation for the Argentine government.
