Co-Founder of BitMEX, Arthur Hayes, predicts that the altcoin season, commonly referred to as altseason, will only truly begin when Bitcoin manages to break through the US$110,000 level and continues its rally to reach US$200,000.
Quoting a Fortune Crypto report on Sunday (18/5/2025), Hayes mentioned that this surge could potentially occur in June or early the third quarter, alongside increasing liquidity.
When discussing leading altcoins, Hayes openly prefers Ethereum over Solana. Although he acknowledges Solana's performance, which skyrocketed from US$7 to more than US$170, he believes that Ethereum's fundamentals are much stronger.
According to Hayes, Ethereum has the most developers, the highest total value locked (TVL), and better security thanks to the proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanism. In other words, he sees Ethereum as a more sustainable long-term investment choice.
Looking ahead, Hayes maintains his long-term prediction, where the price of Bitcoin could reach US$250,000 this year, and even break US$1 million by the end of Donald Trump's second term, if Trump is re-elected as President of the United States. He links this projection to his views on the macroeconomic conditions in the United States.
