Li Xiaolai: 100,000 Bitcoins
He was once a star teacher at New Oriental, famous for selling books. But in 2011, he made a crazy decision: he invested all his savings to buy 100,000 bitcoins. This is Li Xiaolai's story, and how this decision changed his life:
In 1972, Li Xiaolai was born in Yanji, Jilin. He was admitted to Changchun University for the college entrance examination, studying accounting. After graduation, Li Xiaolai was assigned to work at a bank. But Li Xiaolai quickly resigned, feeling that the institutional life he could see through at a glance was not what he wanted.
So Li Xiaolai went to the computer city to work in sales, and later dabbled in the clothing wholesale business. By his twenties, he earned his first pot of gold and became the Northeast region general agent for Jinying graphics cards. At one point, he made a million a year, thriving in the industry and gaining some fame in the Northeast IT circle. That was the first time Li Xiaolai tasted the feeling of making big money, which planted the seed for his intense desire for success in the future. However, fate did not always favor him: his father fell seriously ill, and the huge medical expenses acted like a black hole, swallowing all his savings clean. Li Xiaolai fell from the peak back to the bottom and realized that he was still far from being qualified to make money. In order to turn his life around, he began to try constantly, running internet cafes, starting companies, selling projects, but almost none succeeded. Until one day, an old friend, Luo Yonghao, called him to teach English together at New Oriental:
