Jack Dorsey Says Goodbye “Satoshi”—Wants a Big Change for Bitcoin
Jack Dorsey, the famous co-founder of Twitter and a big Bitcoin supporter, wants to make Bitcoin easier for everyone to understand. He’s backing a bold new idea: change the name of Bitcoin’s smallest unit, “sats” and just call it “bits”
Right now, one Bitcoin equals 100 million satoshis. That means small amounts often look confusing—like 0.00002525 BTC. But with this new plan, that same amount would simply show as ₿2,525. Way easier, right?
This idea is part of a proposal called BIP 177, and Dorsey thinks it will help more people use and trust Bitcoin. He says the word “sats” (short for satoshis) confuses new users and holds Bitcoin back from becoming more popular.
Not everyone agrees, though. Some people think changing the unit could cause more confusion or hurt Bitcoin’s special value. But others believe it could be a game-changer for bringing Bitcoin to more people around the world.
One thing’s clear—this debate is heating up, and Jack Dorsey is right in the middle of it. Is this the future of Bitcoin?
