The image refers to the legend of chess and rice: a wise man asked the king to give him 1 grain of rice on the first square of the board, 2 on the second, 4 on the third... and so on up to square 64, always doubling. The king accepted without thinking, but he did not know that on square 64 he had to give him 2⁶³ grains, which is more than 9 quintillion grains. That amounts to about 184 billion tons of rice. To give you an idea, the whole world produces only 510 million tons per year, meaning that not even in over 360 years could we produce that amount, using all the world's production. It is a brutal demonstration of how exponential growth works.
