In the USA, members of a crypto gang who stole $263 million were arrested — US Department of Justice
The US Department of Justice has charged 12 individuals in a large-scale cryptocurrency scheme. The group stole over $263 million, laundering money and even breaking into victims' homes for cold wallets.
Roles were clearly defined: database hackers, social engineers, couriers, money launderers, and robbers.
Stolen BTC was spent on luxury: $500k for a night at a club, private jets, 28 supercars (up to $3.8 million each), elite housing, watches, clothing, and even Birkin bags.
The main suspect, 20-year-old Malone Lam, continued to coordinate the scheme even from jail, receiving Hermes bags for his girlfriend.
Among the charges are conspiracy to commit extortion, hacking, and money laundering. The guilty face long imprisonment.
