What if XRP Becomes the Next Bitcoin?
Dave Portnoy, the face of Barstool Sports and a well-known internet figure, recently shared some bold thoughts at the Consensus 2025 crypto event. While many are focused on Bitcoin and meme coins, Portnoy revealed he’s betting big on XRP.
He shared a story about getting outbid on a Miami apartment by a "crypto bro" who had invested in Bitcoin when it was just $7–$8. “I’ve worked hard for 20 years, and this guy just outbid me with Bitcoin,” Portnoy said, highlighting how early crypto adopters turned their investments into serious wealth.
Portnoy believes FOMO (fear of missing out) is a powerful force in crypto. While Bitcoin is already well-established, he thinks XRP is now at that stage where people feel they might miss the next big thing. And that’s exactly why he's in.
He’s not claiming XRP is a guaranteed win, but with its current price reminding him of Bitcoin’s early days, he says, “Maybe XRP is the next Bitcoin.”
Back in 2020, he entered crypto on the Winklevoss twins’ advice, buying Bitcoin and altcoins like LINK—but sold off quickly after a price drop. Now, he’s back in the game, planning to invest millions if Bitcoin dips to the $40K range.
With Bitcoin recently hitting a new all-time high above $109,000 and now hovering around $100,000, the spotlight is back on crypto—and XRP just might be the next big story.
