Key EIPs in the Ethereum Pectra Upgrade

On May 7, 2025, the Ethereum network successfully activated the Pectra upgrade, which became one of the largest in the history of the blockchain in terms of the number of changes. It includes 11 key Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) that enhance scalability, staking flexibility, and user experience.

Among the main EIPs, the following stand out:

EIP-7702: Introduces account abstraction, allowing regular wallets to function as smart contracts. This simplifies transactions, adds gas sponsorship capabilities, and facilitates asset recovery.

EIP-7251: Increases the maximum validator balance to 2048 ETH, enabling staking consolidation and reducing network load. This makes staking more flexible and accessible.

EIP-7691: Doubles the number of blobs (from 3 to 6), improving scalability for Layer-2 solutions such as rollups.

Other EIPs, such as EIP-7002, add the capability for validators to manage their own keys for staking, as well as optimize transaction execution, reducing gas costs. The Pectra upgrade is an important step towards enhancing the security, efficiency, and accessibility of Ethereum, contributing to the wider adoption of on-chain technologies and supporting the ambitions of the Trillion Dollar Security Initiative.
