On May 15, PANews reported that Anchorage Digital CEO Nathan McCauley refuted reports that the company was under investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the Consensus 2025 conference in Toronto, stating that the related reports are "completely unfounded." Previously, Barron's reported that an anti-money laundering task force under DHS was reaching out to former employees of the company to understand its business operations. McCauley stated that the company has confirmed through legal counsel that there is no such investigation.

Anchorage Digital is known for its strict compliance, having just obtained the BitLicense issued by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) last December, which is one of the most difficult regulatory licenses to obtain in the cryptocurrency industry.
