Wealthy people in Asia are slowly moving their investment from products based on U.S. dollars, they are now seen to invest in gold, cryptocurrencies, and Chinese investments.
While talking to Bloomberg Amy Lo the co lead of Wealth Management in Asia of UBS said these investors have been shifting their investments into other investment products especially gold is becoming more popular among them.
She argued that skyrocketing geopolitical uncertainty and persistent market volatility as a key factors behind the transition.
After a long time of criticism, once again investors are now seen favoring investments in China, including technology.
Amy said that UBS clients who earlier avoided investing in China are now actively seeking information about the investment in the nation.
The global recognition of Hong Kong stock market and milestones achieved in 2024 has lured millions of new investors towards China. It is worth noting that there are a majority of companies in the HK stock market that are originally from Chinese territory.
Will China change its stance on crypto?
With China’s changing image after severe allegations of development of the Covid- 19 viruses in the lab, yet it has also become one of the nations to gain huge investment this year.
Despite increased investment, China has remained confused over crypto, and to date, its usage and other activities are banned. On the other hand, Hong Kong has become one of the most popular places for digital assets in the world in 2024.
Individual cryptocurrency ownership is permitted despite the prohibition on commercial activity, and since 2013, courts have recognized digital assets as property with legal rights, a fact that was confirmed in a Shanghai court decision in November 2024; crypto, however, cannot be used for commerce or as legal money.
Hong Kong’s pro-crypto policies, which include sponsoring events like the Web3 Festival and restarting retail trade in June 2023, stand in stark contrast to mainland China’s position. According to experts, Hong Kong’s regulated strategy may serve as a template for the mainland’s controlled adoption of crypto.
Crypto market price updates
Until publishing, the crypto market cap was $3.37 trillion with an intraday surge of 1.24% and the trading volume was $154.44 million. At the same time crypto fear and greed index was at 74, indicating greed in market sentiments.
Bitcoin the pioneer is exchanging hands at $103,922 with an addition of 0.19% in the past 24 hours, and in a week its prices grew around 7.17%.
As of writing, Ethereum was at $2,623, and its market capitalization was $317.10 billion, and its trading volume is $38.76 billion. Ether prices have performed quite well over the past few weeks, now their prices are expected to cross the mark of $2,800 and then further $3,000.
