#TrumpTariffs
Trump Tariffs refer to the trade policies implemented by the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, during his tenure (2017–2021), which significantly changed the direction of US trade policy. These policies focused on increasing import tariffs, especially on products from China, with the aim of reducing the trade deficit and protecting domestic industries. One of the most notable measures was the imposition of billions of dollars in tariffs on Chinese goods in the context of a trade war that escalated since 2018. Trump also raised tariffs on steel and aluminum from several countries. These policies were claimed to support US workers, but many economists criticized them for creating global tensions, harming farmers, raising consumer goods prices, and provoking retaliation from trade partners. Although seen as an effort to defend the domestic economy, Trump’s tariffs sparked a wide debate about the long-term effectiveness of protectionism in an interconnected global economy.
