Australia's ruling Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese has been sworn in for a second term as prime minister. After securing a landslide victory in the May 3, 2025 general election, he and his new cabinet were sworn in by Governor-General Sam Mostyn in the country's capital, Canberra, on Tuesday (May 13).
According to analysts, Albanese's government's main priorities in his second term will be effective measures to reduce the cost of living, realistically addressing climate change and issues related to constitutional recognition of Australia's indigenous people.
Meanwhile, the country's main opposition Liberal Party has elected a woman as its leader for the first time, replacing longtime leader Peter Dutton. Her name is Susan Lee. She is a veteran MP and former minister. Under her leadership, the Liberal Party has signaled a reorientation towards a modern, inclusive form.
