Metaplanet's BTC holdings reached 6.79K, surpassing El Salvador's 6.1K BTC.
The company has about 30% more to reach its goal of 10K BTC by the end of 2025.
On May 12, Metaplanet in Japan announced the purchase of an additional 1,241 Bitcoin (BTC), raising the total Bitcoin holdings to 6,796 BTC. The value of this BTC is over 700 million USD at current market prices.

Interestingly, Metaplanet has now surpassed El Salvador's holdings, which amount to 6,174 BTC (worth 642 million USD) according to Bitcoin Office data.
In comparison, El Salvador began its BTC purchasing plan in 2021, while Metaplanet joined the trend last year.
The Tokyo-based company aims to purchase 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025. With more than six months remaining and about 30% to reach the target, the company could exceed 10K BTC if strong buying trends continue.
Metaplanet employs a fundraising strategy, including a debt-raising model and stock issuance.
Meanwhile, Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) holds a massive 568,840 BTC. This large amount of BTC has provided significant benefits to MSTR shareholders.

Compared to the same period last year, MSTR increased by 238% while BTC rose by 63%. However, Metaplanet's stock has provided better returns than MSTR and BTC.
Since the beginning of the year, Metaplanet's stock has risen 58%, while MSTR has increased by 28% and BTC by 6%, demonstrating that Metaplanet outperforms in terms of price, despite holding fewer BTC than Strategy.
Many public companies have joined the trend of using BTC as a reserve fund to achieve profits similar to Metaplanet. According to Bitbo, public companies have purchased 724K BTC (worth 75 billion USD) or about 3.4% of the total BTC supply.
Overall, the adoption of BTC by countries and companies (both public and private) accounts for about 15% of the total supply (over 3 million BTC) or 330 billion USD.
Simply put, adoption by countries and organizations has become a key driver for BTC prices.
