Satoshi Nakamoto is the pseudonym of the unknown person or group that designed Bitcoin. In 2008, Nakamoto published the white paper that describes the Bitcoin protocol, and in 2009, he launched the first application of the currency's software.
Nakamoto remained active in the development of Bitcoin until late 2010, then disappeared without revealing his true identity. To this day, it is still unknown who Satoshi Nakamoto is, and whether he is an individual or a group of people.
Nakamoto's mysterious identity has sparked much speculation and theories, but none have been conclusively proven.
