Increasingly engulfed in legal turmoil, Craig Wright – who claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin – has just been issued a three-year litigation restriction order by a UK court, marking a significant legal blow to his series of 'nuisance' lawsuits in England.
Prohibited from suing without the permission of the Supreme Court
According to the latest ruling by Judge James Mellor, #CraigWright will not be allowed to file any civil lawsuits in the lower courts or the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom for the next three years, unless explicitly permitted by the Supreme Court.
This order, called a General Civil Restraint Order (GCRO), was issued following a lawsuit from the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) – an anti-monopoly crypto patent alliance, and SquareUp, Jack Dorsey's payment company.
Not stopping there, Wright was also required to pay £100,000 (equivalent to $132,000) to compensate for legal costs for COPA and SquareUp.
Could be seen as a 'legal abuser' – the risk of facing an additional nationwide ban
The case is serious enough that Craig Wright has been referred to the UK Attorney General to consider whether he is a 'frequent and baseless nuisance litigant' – as defined by the laws of this country.
If determined as such, he could be subject to an additional Civil Procedure Order (CPO) – a more stringent injunction than GCRO, applicable to all courts across the United Kingdom.
Judge Mellor stated:
"In the UK alone, the parties sued by Wright have had to spend at least £10 million (~$13 million) on legal costs. His actions have consumed too much time and resources of the court."
Where is Craig Wright now?
According to information mentioned in the ruling, Craig Wright is currently living in a rural area of Asia and has started growing... pumpkins, indicating he may be gradually withdrawing from public legal life after a series of defeats in the legal arena in England.
Contacting the crypto market and Binance users:
This is a noteworthy development for the cryptocurrency community in general and Binance users in particular because:
Craig Wright has created significant controversy regarding the identity of Satoshi, greatly affecting market sentiment.
His 'legal gagging' may help reduce information distortion in the market and unnecessary lawsuits related to copyright, Bitcoin, or blockchain technology.
This move is also a clear signal that countries are tightening laws against abuses of the judicial system in the crypto sector.
Risk warning: Although the above information indicates active intervention from the law, the crypto market still carries high risks and is volatile. Always exercise caution when investing, avoiding influence from controversial figures or unverified claims. #anhbacong
