In the new week, Michael Saylor once again left the crypto community 'stunned' when his company – Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), formerly MicroStrategy, announced the purchase of an additional 13,390 BTC with a total value of 1.34 billion USD in just 6 days (from May 5 to May 11, 2025).
Total Bitcoin holdings: Nearly 569,000 BTC – worth about 59 billion USD
With the latest deal, #strategy has increased its total Bitcoin holdings to 568,840 BTC, keeping the company at the top as the largest Bitcoin holder in the world.
So far, the company has spent a total of 39.41 billion USD to buy BTC, with an average price of 69,287 USD per BTC. Meanwhile, the current Bitcoin price is trading around 104,110 USD, which has increased by more than 50% compared to Strategy's cost price.
From software company to 'publicly listed Bitcoin fund'
Initially a data analytics software company, Strategy has completely pivoted to become a publicly listed Bitcoin treasury and is leading the 'tokenization of Bitcoin' movement through stocks traded on Nasdaq.
Strategy's model allows traditional investors to access Bitcoin legally, transparently, and through securities, instead of having to manage wallets and private keys themselves.
#MichaelSaylor – co-founder and now chairman of Strategy – initiated this strategy in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. When the FED pumped trillions of USD to save the economy, Saylor believed that Bitcoin was the optimal inflation hedge and a superior store of value compared to cash or bonds.
A slew of smaller companies are following suit
Strategy's approach of 'turning Bitcoin into a core asset of the business' is being emulated by many other companies on Nasdaq such as Metaplanet and Semler Scientific – creating an unprecedented wave of Bitcoin institutionalization.
With Bitcoin's current price only about 4% away from its historic peak of $108,786, companies 'leveraging' Bitcoin like Strategy are being sought after by investors. MSTR shares are thus also continually recording impressive gains along with $BTC .
Contact with the crypto market and Binance users:
This event shows that Bitcoin is being shaped as a mainstream financial asset. Binance users – especially institutional investors – can track this trend to:
Assess the role of BTC as a 'treasury asset' in a long-term investment portfolio.
Look for indirect investment opportunities through stocks like MSTR if you don't want to hold BTC directly.
Watch to see if Binance launches similar financial products (ETFs, asset-backed stocks, etc.) to provide safer and more legal investment options into BTC.
Risk warning: Bitcoin prices can be highly volatile, even when held by large institutions. The 'Bitcoin treasury' investment strategy, while attractive, is not for everyone. Always assess risks and carefully consider before making decisions.
