Global stock markets rose sharply on Monday after the United States and China announced a temporary 90-day suspension of most of the steep tariffs both nations had imposed in recent months, representing significant progress toward defusing the trade war initiated by US President Donald Trump.

The United States will reduce its tariffs on Chinese goods to 30% from a peak of 145%, while China will lower its tariffs on US goods to 10% from 125%.
