Metaplanet currently holds more Bitcoin than El Salvador
Japanese investment company Metaplanet currently holds 6,796 Bitcoin, valued at over 700 million dollars.
Japanese investment company Metaplanet has added an additional 129 million dollars to its Bitcoin treasury, bringing its total holdings above that of the country with the largest Bitcoin reserves, El Salvador. From humble beginnings to rival nations, we are just getting started,” CEO Simon Gerovich said on X after the latest purchase announcement.
On May 12, the Tokyo-listed company announced that it had acquired 1,241 Bitcoin for 14.8 million yen (101,843 dollars) for one coin.
The total purchase value, at the highest purchase price to date, is approximately 129 million dollars at current market prices.
This brings the total number of Bitcoin held by the company to 6,796 Bitcoin, currently valued at about 707 million dollars with an average purchase price of 91,000 dollars per Bitcoin. Metaplanet began its BTC accumulation strategy in April 2024.
According to the National Bitcoin Office, El Salvador is the sixth largest holding country with 6,714 Bitcoin valued at approximately 642 million dollars.
The Japanese investment company also reported Bitcoin Yield, measuring the percentage change in the amount of Bitcoin held per fully diluted share, at 38% for the current quarter to date. The company achieved a BTC Yield of 95.6% in the first quarter of 2025.
Metaplanet has been more active in accumulating assets in recent months, having purchased 5,555 Bitcoin on May 7, four purchases in April totaling 18,586 BTC, and six purchases in March totaling 18,925 BTC. #metaplanet
