The $TRUMP Family Crypto Business Raises Ethical Concerns

President Trump’s second term has seen a bold entanglement of politics and personal ventures—this time, in the world of cryptocurrency. As his administration begins regulating digital tokens, the Trump family is already deep into selling them.

$TRUMP Coin: Access and Influence

On May 22, President Trump plans to host a private dinner at his golf club for the top 220 holders of his TRUMP coin. While pitched as harmless fun, the move raises concerns about the optics of selling access to the President.

The Trump Organization holds 80% of $TRUMP's, locked for three years. Frenzied trading boosts their paper value, and over $300 million has been generated from coin trades, with a fee from each transaction routed to wallets tied to the token’s creators.

Foreign Money and Political Risk

Although foreign contributions to campaigns are illegal, foreign investors dominate the top $TRUMPs, buying through offshore exchanges. This opens the door to concerns over international influence and backdoor political donations.

World Liberty Financial and Global Expansion

The Trump family is also behind World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture that’s raised $550 million. Its tokens aren't publicly traded but give holders governance votes. UAE-based DWF Labs recently invested $25 million and hinted at policy discussions in Washington.

Co-founded by Zach Witkoff, son of a Trump envoy, the firm has struck global deals—including a $2B crypto investment pact with Abu Dhabi and a crypto adoption plan with Pakistan.

Regulatory Crosshairs and Political Fallout

With Trump’s administration now regulating crypto, critics warn of a conflict of interest. Democrats have already blocked legislation, accusing the SEC of going soft on Trump-linked firms.

Despite past criticism of political profiteering by rivals, the Trump family’s crypto activities may now mirror the same concerns blurring the line between public office and personal fortune.
