IN THE USA, A MAN WAS SENTENCED TO 30 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CRYPTO TRANSFERS TO TERRORISTS

35-year-old Virginia resident Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa will spend 30 years and four months in prison for crypto transfers amounting to $185,000 to the terrorist group ISIS, the U.S. Department of Justice reported.

From 2019 to 2022, Chhipa raised funds through social media and personal meetings, converted them into cryptocurrency, and transferred them through Turkey to Syria. The money helped ISIS members escape from camps and finance operations.

In December 2024, the court found him guilty on five counts, including conspiracy.

"He directly supported the atrocities of ISIS," said Attorney General Pam Bondi.

During the FBI investigation, Chhipa tried to flee: he withdrew $1,800, purchased bus tickets under false names, flew to Mexico, and then to Guatemala. His plan to reach Egypt via Panama and Germany failed after Interpol intervened — he was deported to the USA.
