Ethereum Foundation Q1 2025 Grants to Enhance Layer 2 Efficiency and Educational Projects
The Ethereum Foundation recently announced through its Ecosystem Support Program (EFESP) that it will allocate $32.65 million in Q1 2025 to enhance Layer 2 efficiency and strengthen educational projects. This funding will be distributed across several areas, including community and education, consensus layer, cryptography, and zero-knowledge proofs.
Specifically, the EFESP grants will primarily support community and education-related projects, with 37 projects receiving funding, including the ETHPrague and the first ETHiopia conference, as well as Ethereum conferences and hackathons to expand the global Ethereum ecosystem. Additionally, funding will support projects like the Arab Blockchain Developers Bootcamp, focusing on educational content creation and community building, and will finance blockchain-related academic conferences and research centers.
The second major category of grants focuses on "Cryptography and Zero-Knowledge Proofs," with a total of 16 projects receiving funding. These projects are mainly dedicated to advancing zero-knowledge proof technology, developing new cryptographic tools, and researching post-quantum cryptography, among other areas. In the "Consensus Layer" group, seven projects have also been supported, including a project by renowned mathematician Andrew Lewis-Pye, aimed at improving the security and performance of the Ethereum consensus mechanism.
In terms of "Developer Experience and Tools," they have sponsored 17 projects, with beneficiaries like BuidlGuidl focusing on creating mobile SDKs, building educational communities, developing analytics platforms, and improving validator tools. Furthermore, some projects are dedicated to optimizing the execution layer, including developing execution clients and optimizing gas costs.
Overall, this funding will significantly enhance the Ethereum ecosystem's strength, ensuring users can better enjoy the core features of blockchain while improving overall resilience and decentralization levels.
