The $600 Million Pizzas
In 2010, a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz made history with the first-ever real-world Bitcoin transaction. He offered 10,000 BTC to anyone who would deliver two pizzas to his house.
Someone took the offer, bought him two Papa John's pizzas for about $41, and received the 10,000 bitcoins in return.
At the time, those 10,000 BTC were worth around $41. Today (2025), they’d be valued at over $600 million!
This event is now celebrated every May 22 as Bitcoin Pizza Day, a reminder of how far crypto has come—and how expensive pizza can be in hindsight.
