On May 7, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan,

expressing deep concern over the situation and offering to mediate to help de-escalate tensions.

Speaking from the Oval Office, President Trump described the ongoing hostilities as “so terrible” and emphasized his desire for both nations to cease their military actions. He stated, “I get along with both. I know both very well, and I want to see them work it out. I want to see them stop. Hopefully, they can stop now as they have gone tit-for-tat. So hopefully they can stop now.” He further added, “If I can do anything to help, I will be there.”

President Trump’s remarks came in the wake of India’s “Operation Sindoor,” a series of airstrikes targeting what India described as terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. These strikes were in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 Hindu tourists. Pakistan reported that the Indian strikes resulted in 31 civilian deaths and vowed to retaliate, claiming to have shot down five Indian jets.

The international community has expressed concern over the escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called for military restraint, stating that “the world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan.”

President Trump’s offer to mediate reflects a broader international effort to prevent further escalation and encourage diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
