Trump’s Trade Show Returns: Canada, China, and a Mysterious Surprise
On May 6, Donald Trump brought drama back to global diplomacy. At the White House, he welcomed Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, with a mix of praise, warnings, and a big teaser:
“We’ll make the biggest announcement in years—this week. Loud, very loud.”
Trump called Carney “very talented” and said the U.S. and Canada would stay friends no matter what. But he also questioned why the U.S. gives Canada “$200 billion in subsidies and military protection,” adding,
“We don’t need anything from them but their friendship.”
Earlier on social media, Trump called Canada “a friend who needs everything from us.”
When it came to trade, Trump hinted he might reopen the USMCA agreement, saying,
“Maybe we’ll revisit it, maybe we won’t,” while criticizing past Canadian leaders for poor deals.
Carney stayed calm, simply saying that some parts of the deal might need updates.
And what about China? Trump said,
“They want a deal. Their ships are turning around. Their economy’s hurting.”
But the U.S.? “We don’t need them.”
He compared America to “a super-luxury store. Everyone wants in. But we don’t need their markets.”
Trump also claimed that India had agreed to drop tariffs:
“They already said yes.”
He didn’t give details, but the message was clear: Trump wants trade wins — fast.
Then came the mystery: Trump teased a major announcement before his trip to the Middle East. He gave no clues, just a big smile — and a storm of speculation.
