New car tax in Brazil: an absurdity!
Buying a new car around here is almost a punishment. More than half of the price goes straight to the public coffers in the form of taxes — IPI, ICMS, PIS, Cofins… the list is long. In the end, Brazilians pay the price of a European luxury car for a popular model. It’s a system that penalizes the consumer and makes mobility more expensive. It doesn’t pay off and doesn’t make sense.
