He claimed that the US is currently negotiating trade agreements with multiple countries, including China, with the core objective of the negotiations with China being to reach a 'fair' trade agreement.
China has been the main target of US tariff policies in recent years. In response to the US's tariff threats, China has taken strong countermeasures, imposing tariffs of up to 145% on certain American goods, demonstrating its firm resolve and tough stance. However, Trump does not seem to be backing down. He revealed that he might consider lowering tariffs on China in the future, and officials from both sides are currently engaged in intensive negotiations on multiple issues.
Trump emphasized that the US has freed itself from trade dependence on China and is no longer 'losing trillions of dollars' as it did in the past. He even stated that despite China's desire to reach an agreement quickly, the US will not easily compromise, and any agreement must be based on 'fairness'. He also hinted that he might announce some progress on trade agreements within the next week.
Since April 2 of this year, the US has imposed additional tariffs of 10%-25% on products from multiple countries, with tariffs on certain Chinese products reaching as high as 145%. Trump also revealed that new tariff policies may be set for certain countries in the next two to three weeks. He criticized China for 'deceiving' the US over the past few decades and called Nixon's establishment of diplomatic relations with China the 'worst decision'. Nevertheless, Trump remains optimistic about ultimately reaching an agreement with China.
Meanwhile, the US is also negotiating trade agreements with countries like India, South Korea, and Japan, with expectations to reach relevant agreements as early as June.
