How can university students with zero experience find their first internship? Don't wait until your senior year to feel anxious; the earlier you start your internship, the better. Ideally, you should start interning from your freshman year. Starting an internship early means making mistakes and accumulating experience early. By the time you graduate, while others are still sending out resumes with nothing to show, you will already have three internship experiences in hand and can choose from offers.
But now the biggest problem is that it is really difficult for university students with zero experience to find internships. They don't know which companies to apply to, and they don't know what to write on their resumes. They can't just write that they listened attentively in class, right? After submitting resumes, there is no response; HR doesn't even glance at them. Don't worry, this article will clarify everything for you. Even if you have zero experience, you can quickly secure an internship as long as you follow my next three steps.
1️⃣ The first step is to find the company and position you want to enter and can actually enter. Remember this formula: small company + urgent hiring position = easy to enter. Many internship positions will be marked as urgent hiring; just pay attention to this when applying. Don’t rush to apply at Tencent or Alibaba right away.
First, go to small and medium-sized enterprises or peripheral positions in large factories. Don't worry too much about whether the internship position matches your major because you probably didn't learn much in your major anyway. Moreover, many positions don’t actually require a specific major, such as administrative, operations assistant, and sales positions.
How to determine whether these positions are suitable for you? Just three words: go with your feelings. Look at the job description; if you feel you can understand the responsibilities and terminology involved, then boldly apply without worrying.
What if you get scammed by some small companies? You haven't signed a labor contract, so if you feel it's not suitable, you can just leave. Even if you get multiple offers, you can try each one out; changing 8 internships in 3 days is not a problem.
In the emerging web3 industry, you should be bold to try. Back when NFTs were all the rage, I was a high school senior going to various projects to ask for mods; if you get one, you earn it. Of course, there are still many opportunities now: official employees and ambassadors of the project party, as well as mods and volunteers for DC, and campus recruitment internships from exchanges. Below are some channels for your reference.
⭐️ Official employees of the project party: Some project parties will directly post job requirements on their Twitter homepage, and everyone can submit their resumes to apply.
⭐️ Project party ambassadors and DC MODs: Project parties will release application forms or links for everyone to fill out and provide feedback. Recent ambassador plans are as follows (links are in the image; please take them).
1. Rome @RomeProtocol ambassador application
2. Theoriq @TheoriqAI ambassador application
3. FractionAI @FractionAI_xyz ambassador application
4. Openledger @OpenledgerHQ ambassador application
5. PAI3 @Pai3Ai ambassador application
6. StandX @StandX_Official ambassador application
7. noble @noble_xyz ambassador application
8. Optimum @get_optimum mod application
9. Openledger @OpenledgerHQ mod application
For more ambassador and mod applications, everyone can follow the Twitter and DC of the projects they like.
⭐️ Campus recruitment internships at exchanges: Directly check the official websites of major exchanges to submit your resume (just search the exchange name + 'recruitment').
1. okx @okxchinese official recruitment
2. binance @binancezh official recruitment
3. bitget @Bitget_zh official recruitment
4. bybit @Bybit_Official official recruitment
⭐️ Project party DC volunteer: After entering the DC server in the early stages of the project, directly contact the official (issue invoices) and explain past experiences.
2️⃣ The second step is to tailor your resume for the position you are applying for. In fact, HR doesn’t care what you have done; they only care about what problems you can solve. At this point, students might ask, 'What if I have no internship experience, no campus experience, no project management experience, no works, no competitions, no skills, and I haven’t passed the CET-4 and keep failing?' How should I write my resume? Actually, none of these are problems. Haven’t you seen pigs run if you haven't eaten pork?
Some campus experiences and course projects can be directly fabricated by asking senior students for advice. No one really checks these things. You can mention the campus activities, planning, possible projects, or club management you have participated in, highlighting your contributions and achievements in these activities. Some competitions and awards can also be boldly fabricated, as no one checks that either.
When applying for different positions, you also need to adjust your resume slightly. For example, for an operations position, highlight your planning ability; for an administrative position, emphasize your attention to detail and responsibility. You need to make the match with the position as high as possible, so they feel you are naturally suitable for this position.
3️⃣ The third step is to submit your resume. You can apply on the company's official website and on internship recruitment software aimed at university students. If you see a position that can lead to a full-time job, hurry up and apply; these companies are most willing to train newcomers. You can also look for someone to refer you on platforms like Xiaohongshu, Maimai, or Niuke, and keep an eye on companies cooperating with your school; you can directly ask your counselor about this.
Many internal referral spots are hardly desired, and when you submit your resume, are you all using the default greeting? HR sees that and feels like they're looking at a machine; they truly don’t want to respond to you. Just write that you can start in a week, add your name, and state your availability for three months regardless of how long you can actually work. Companies are most afraid of someone leaving after two weeks; let’s get in first and say the rest later.
Add a line in the main text, expressing particular interest in a certain project of your company, stating that my certain experience may be helpful. This sentence is to prove that you are not just mass applying. If you don’t get a response within three days, send a follow-up saying you are ready to provide any additional materials at any time. This method has a very high response rate and has been tested for effectiveness!
Finally, as graduation season approaches, I wish all comrades can receive a satisfactory offer, and I wish all working comrades smooth work and abundant wealth.
