“We will never accept the presence of the United States military in our territory,” said President Claudia Sheinbaum, admitting that her U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, proposed to her, during one of the calls they had, that troops enter Mexico to help combat drug trafficking.

During the inauguration of a headquarters of the Benito Juárez University in Lake Texcoco, the president confirmed that Trump made the proposal to her.

"Yesterday it appeared in the newspaper The Wall Street Journal that President Trump, in one of the calls (we had), told me it was important for the United States military to enter Mexico to help us in the fight against drug trafficking. I want to say that it is true.

“In some of the calls, but not as they mention, he said ‘how can we help you in the fight against drug trafficking? I propose that the United States military enters to help you.’ Do you know what I told him? No, President Trump, the territory is inviolable, sovereignty is inviolable, sovereignty is not for sale. Sovereignty is loved and defended.”

The President elaborated that “it is not necessary, we can collaborate, we can work together, but you in your territory, and us in ours. We can share information, but we will never accept the presence of the United States military in our territory.”

She also commented: “If you want to help us, President Trump, help us ensure that weapons from the United States do not enter Mexico. And look at what’s happening, yesterday he gave an order to ensure that everything necessary is done so that weapons from the United States do not enter our country. That is to say, we can collaborate, we can cooperate.”
