The government of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, proposed this Friday a cut of 163 billion dollars in federal spending for the next year, which would eliminate more than one fifth of non-military spending, excluding mandatory benefit programs.
The proposed budget would increase defense spending by 13 percent and national security spending by nearly 65 percent compared to the levels enacted in 2025. Discretionary spending unrelated to defense would be reduced by 23 percent, reaching the lowest level since 2017, said the Office of Management and Budget of the White House (OMB) in a statement.
