Sweeping AML Laws In EU To Ban Crypto Anonymity By 2027!
The EU plans to enforce strict Anti-Money Laundering rules starting in 2027, banning privacy coins like Monero and Zcash, and anonymous crypto accounts. Under the AML Regulation, banks and crypto service providers (or CASPs) must halt support for anonymity-enhancing features. CASPs in at least six member states will be subject to direct AML oversight, with large firms prioritized. Additional rules include mandatory ID checks for crypto transactions over €1,000 and ongoing regulatory guidance through implementing acts.
