The candidate used different names, switched between voices, and connected through a remote Mac with a VPN, and his documents turned out to be fake. As a result of the investigation, it was found that he was linked to a hacking group previously involved in data leaks and cryptocurrency thefts.
The company received a warning from industry partners, matched the candidate's email against a database of known hackers, and used the hiring process to gather information. In the end, the candidate failed the identity check, confirming suspicions. Kraken reminded that threats from state-sponsored hackers are a global issue that goes beyond the cryptocurrency industry.
