US Lawmaker Wants Crypto ATMs in Government Buildings

A US Congressman from Texas, Lance Gooden, has suggested putting cryptocurrency ATMs in federal buildings across the country. In a letter sent on May 1 to the General Services Administration (GSA), which manages government properties, Gooden said these machines could help teach people about crypto and show that the US is keeping up with new tech.

He believes this move would also support former President Donald Trump’s positive stance on digital money. Gooden asked the GSA to look into how it could be done and what rules would be needed.

Gooden doesn’t personally own any crypto or ATM companies, and it’s unclear if the GSA currently has the power to allow private crypto ATMs in government spaces.

Meanwhile, other lawmakers are pushing for stricter rules to prevent fraud at crypto ATMs, especially to protect seniors.

It’s still unknown who exactly can approve such a big change — it may require Congress to step in and fund the idea.
