Court ordered the blocking of R$ 1.6 billion in accounts

The Federal Police carried out Operation Fantasos on Wednesday (30) with the purpose of combating financial crimes and money laundering through cryptocurrencies. The main suspect was identified as the orchestrator of an international fraud scheme, through a company that raised over $295 million between December 2016 and May 2018, defrauding thousands of investors around the world.

In today's operation, about 50 federal police officers are executing 11 search and seizure warrants in the cities of Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, and Angra dos Reis, on the Green Coast. In addition to the court orders, the Federal Court also ordered the seizure of assets and values up to R$ 1.6 billion.

The operation aims to collect evidence to strengthen the investigation, identify other individuals involved in the criminal scheme, and recover assets and goods acquired through the crimes. According to a partial report from the Federal Police, the operation seized:

watches

jewelry

cash

cryptocurrencies

computers

cell phones

various documents.

The investigations received support from the investigative agencies of the United States: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI).
