According to a report by The Guardian, Microsoft expects a new type of company to emerge, which it calls the "leading company," where every employee will be responsible for managing a team of artificial intelligence agents instead of human employees.
Jared Spataro, one of Microsoft's senior executives, wrote that the role of "Chief AI Agent" will become a common title, where a person manages a team of smart robots, trains them, and directs them to increase productivity and control their career path. He added that: "Every employee will be required to think like a manager of a company that relies on robots."
Microsoft expects most companies to become "leading" within the next five years by relying on "on-demand artificial intelligence" to accomplish internal tasks such as gathering sales data and financial forecasts.
The company explains that reaching the role of "Chief AI Agent" will go through three successive stages, starting with every employee receiving an intelligent assistant to support them in their tasks, then work teams evolving to include AI agents as digital colleagues who carry out specific tasks.
In the final stage, the role of humans shifts to setting overall goals and providing guidance, while AI agents manage the details of daily work, with limited human oversight when necessary.
