An airdrop is a way for new projects to promote themselves by distributing tokens for free to users. Why? To introduce people to their project, attract more users, and build an active community around the token or protocol.
There are different types of airdrops.
Airdrop for holders of specific tokens like BNB on Binance.
Airdrop in exchange for completing tasks like following on Twitter or joining Telegram groups.
Experimental airdrops on test networks (Testnets).
Airdrops for active or loyal users who participate in the early stages of the project.
General requirements for the airdrop.
Not every airdrop requires the same things, but usually you need.
A digital wallet like Binance Wallet, MetaMask, or Trust Wallet.
A small balance to cover transaction fees, such as BNB, ETH, or SOL, depending on the network.
Follow the official channels of the project on Twitter – Telegram – Discord.
Perform the required tasks if the project asks for social interaction or technical steps.
From my personal experience.
Personally, I participated in more than one airdrop, and these are the most prominent ones.
Airdrop BNB on Binance. I kept my BNB token on the Binance platform, not in an external wallet, and found myself eligible for the airdrop without having to do anything extra!
I entered Simple Earn and locked some BNB there.
After a while, I received a new token SIGN on April 28, 2025, and this was a direct distribution without having to make a Claim.
I participated in Telegram bots like Hamster Kombat and Dogs Token, which required simple daily tasks, such as reacting to a post, joining a group, or sharing a tweet, and I actually received tokens for free after a period of commitment to the tasks.
Testnet projects on test networks, for example, enter the Solana Devnet and perform a Swap and Add Liquidity. I tried a project on the TON network and executed some experimental operations, and after a few weeks, the project distributed an airdrop to those who participated.
Recent examples of Binance distributions.
The INIT token is distributed through Launchpool on Binance. People who locked BNB, FDUSD, and USDC from April 18 to April 24, 2025, received INIT.
SIGN is a direct airdrop for BNB holders who participated in Simple Earn between April 15 and April 19. The distribution took place on April 28, 2025.
