The Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), owned by U.S. President Donald Trump, announced plans to issue a utility token for its social media platform Truth Social. According to information contained in a letter sent to shareholders, this token will primarily be used for Truth+ subscription payments and will later be valid for various products and services within the Truth ecosystem.
Trump Media continues to expand its digital asset-focused plans centered around Truth Social. In January, the fintech brand Truth.Fi, directly controlled by Trump, was officially launched. One of the first steps of this brand was to prepare ETF products that include digital assets and stocks in collaboration with Crypto.com and asset management company Yorkville America Digital. A trademark application covering services such as "digital wallet software" was also filed last November for Truth.Fi.
On the other hand, Trump's relationship with crypto is not limited to utility tokens and ETFs. The TRUMP meme coin, which he introduced in recent months and bears his name, gained significant interest in a short time and reached a market value of $2.6 billion. According to an announcement made among token holders, some of the largest investors may also have the right to attend a private dinner with Trump.
The Trump family and its circle are participating in the crypto world not only through investments but also through direct support. Some family members and advisors are serving as both investors and brand ambassadors for the decentralized finance project World Liberty Financial. It is noteworthy that Donald Trump is involved in this project as the "Chief Crypto Advocate."
Shares of Trump Media, the owner of Truth Social, experienced a 0.52% drop in the post-announcement trading period despite these announcements. However, the clear indication of crypto steps in the company's roadmap for 2025 reveals that Trump is approaching the digital asset ecosystem with a long-term strategy.
