Amnesty Labels Israel’s Gaza Campaign as ‘Live-Streamed Genocide’

Amnesty International has declared that Israel is committing a “live-streamed genocide” in Gaza, asserting that Israeli forces are engaging in illegal acts with the specific intent to eliminate Palestinians. The organization cites violations of the United Nations Genocide Convention, including causing serious bodily or mental harm to civilians and deliberately inflicting conditions calculated to bring about their physical destruction.

In its annual report released on Monday, Amnesty highlighted that Israeli forces have frequently targeted civilians, including those following evacuation orders. The report also notes that Israel has obstructed humanitarian access to Gaza and invaded the southern city of Rafah, despite international warnings about the devastating impact on the civilian population.

Since October 7, 2023, more than 51,300 people, including at least 17,400 children, have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, according to Palestinian health authorities. Amnesty’s Secretary-General, Agnes Callamard, emphasized that the world has witnessed this genocide in real-time, with states appearing powerless as Israel destroyed homes, hospitals, and schools, wiping out entire families.

Israel denies committing genocide, stating that its actions are in self-defense against Hamas and that it takes measures to protect civilians.
