All of this is based on Blockchain technology, which emerged alongside Bitcoin. For this reason, many consider Ethereum an evolution in the concept of Blockchain technology.
The Ethereum platform was envisioned by Canadian programmer Vitalik Buterin in 2013. The platform went online on July 30, 2015, with 11.9 million pre-mined Ethers from the ICO.
Since then, the platform has been gaining increasing adoption among researchers, entrepreneurs, and programmers who wish to create real solutions using blockchain and Ethereum technology.
Ethereum has since become the cryptocurrency with the second-largest market capitalization, behind only Bitcoin.
