Suspension of U.S. Tariffs

#TariffsPause

On April 2, 2025, the United States imposed a 10% tariff on most imports, with higher rates for some countries.

By April 9, it announced a suspension of additional tariffs (beyond 10%) for 90 days for most trading partners, except for China, which faced additional increases.

The purpose of the suspension: to ease trade tensions and open the door for negotiations.

During the suspension period, only the base tariff (10%) applies, which temporarily helped revive financial markets.

Nevertheless, uncertainty remains regarding the future of trade policies, with high tariffs on China and tariffs on steel and aluminum still in effect.

Expected impact: rising costs, risk of inflation, slowdown in trade and economic growth, and increased likelihood of retaliatory responses from other countries.
