#TariffsPause
TariffsPause
• What is #TariffsPause?
It is a hashtag referring to the decision of U.S. President Donald Trump to temporarily halt reciprocal tariffs imposed on imports from more than 75 countries (excluding China) for a period of 90 days, starting from April 9, 2025, with the aim of gaining more time to negotiate new trade deals or renegotiate existing agreements.
• What happened with Chinese goods?
At the same time, the U.S. administration raised tariffs on Chinese goods to 125% to strengthen its negotiating position against China, while granting other countries a “negotiation grace period” by suspending additional tariffs to help them reach understandings or alleviate trade imbalances.
• Objective and expected results:
To provide a “negotiation incentive” for countries to sit at the negotiation table under the pressure of suspending tariffs. Temporarily ease pressures on global supply chains and move financial markets toward relief.
