ZenAcademy adheres to the principle of community first
Before officially renaming itself to ZenAcademy, it was a private community on Discord, which was open to anyone interested in delving into Web3 topics related to NFTs, building collections, or creating Web3 communities.
Zeneca intended to start with Discord, as it allowed him to build the community organically and learn how to better serve those interested in Web3. In his ZenAcademy Genesis NFT letter, he later explained that his long-term goal was to create a membership platform like ZenAcademy, and the step-by-step practice eventually led him to achieve that goal.
When the number of server members exceeded 10,000, he knew he had made some progress.
At the end of 2021, ZenAcademy officially launched two NFTs - the Genesis Membership token and the 333 Club token.
There are a total of 7,848 Genesis Membership tokens and 333 Club tokens, plus an additional 1,153 minted by ZenAcademy's Treasury wallet, bringing the total number of tokens to 10,000.
The Membership NFT adds utility to the free membership enjoyed by ZenAcademy members before 2021. Additional benefits of the NFT include giveaways, exclusive discounts, and events.
The 333 Club token is designed to provide a more prestigious VIP membership experience, allowing users to have one-on-one conversations with Zeneca. Since its inception, ZenAcademy has continued to grow, and as of the publication of this article, their Discord platform has 20,383 members.
Years later, Zeneca released the ZenAcademy PFP
In building ZenAcademy, Zeneca has always pushed for gradual development. The project does not have a clear roadmap outlining its future developments like most NFT projects do.
In ZenAcademy's white paper, Zeneca dedicated an entire section to explaining why he abandoned the roadmap. He emphasized in the white paper: "I don't want to make promises in a roadmap and then feel obligated to fulfill them; I'd rather do it step by step."
Thus, even though the Web3 world anticipated the project's launch of avatar NFTs (as it is very common for membership projects to have avatar NFTs), Zeneca did not see it that way.
He started with the Genesis NFT and the 333 Club NFT, and just two years later, launched Denizens of ZenAcademy, a collection of 10,000 avatar NFTs, each showcasing a sage-like boldness with its purple-toned background and vibrant, daring images.
To obtain one of these warrior-like avatar PFPs, ZenAcademy members must own a previous ZenAcademy NFT, after which they can burn these NFTs in exchange for the PFP.
Zeneca explained to nft now the reasons why the timing for the project was right:
"For me, the change is that we now have a community. We have a foundation, we have some people excited about this PFP, and they want to represent the community on social media, Discord, and build the brand with us. From that perspective, it has become meaningful to strengthen and enhance our existing community rather than using it to fund and build a community."
Now, as the educational platform continues to look towards the future of web3, its path remains as malleable as ever.
ZenAcademy's 'four-phase vision' highlights that the first to third phases focus on the progress made by the member community so far, covering everything from free-minted student NFTs to the latest PFP series. Now, in the fourth phase, ZenAcademy's goals are broader and more optimistic - 'improving everything, reaching millions, empowering the masses, and co-creating the future.'
