In an increasingly decentralized world of work, South African startup, Funti3r, is making waves by re-imagining how businesses connect with global talent – using blockchain and AI at its core.

Launched in Cape Town in 2022, Funti3r was built to solve a fundamental challenge in the modern workforce: how to seamlessly find, hire, and pay skilled professionals across borders. The platform acts as a bridge between global companies and remote talent – especially in underserved regions – delivering a frictionless hiring experience powered by smart technology and fast, secure crypto payments.

“We focus on three key pillars of the modern workforce – skills development, talent management, and business solutions,” says Wisani Hlangwane, Funti3r’s CEO.

“Our platform helps businesses cut costs, boost productivity, and scale faster by outsourcing critical tasks to a vetted global talent pool.”

The company’s rise aligns with the global shift toward remote-first teams and flexible work models.

But what sets Funti3r apart is its tech-first approach: blockchain-enabled payments that eliminate the traditional frictions of cross-border transactions, and AI-driven talent matching that shortens the hiring cycle significantly.

“We saw a gap in the market,” Hlangwane explains.

“On one side, businesses are looking for reliable ways to manage global teams. On the other, skilled professionals – especially in regions like Africa – are eager for high-quality work opportunities. Yet the existing platforms don’t solve for easy international collaboration and fast, secure payments.

That’s where we come in.”

Entirely bootstrapped to date, Funti3r has grown steadily by keeping lean, tapping into strategic resources, and focusing on long-term sustainability. In just two years, it has onboarded over 15 companies – including VC-backed startups and scale-ups – validating strong market demand for a platform like this.

Some of these companies include:

  • FonBnk

  • Yoba

  • Momint

  • Xperience

Funti3r was recently recognized at the AfricArena Johannesburg 2025 Summit, and participated in the UCT GSB Solution Space e-Track Programme, marking its growing influence in the African tech and fintech ecosystem.

Currently, the company operates primarily in South Africa where it has built a solid foundation. However, with rising interest, Funti3r is now actively expanding into the UK, Ireland, and key African markets.

The startup is looking at entering African markets like Kenya and Nigeria by leveraging local partners and global demand.

Its primary revenue stream comes from enterprise and B2B contracts, with monthly recurring revenue (MRR) topping $5,000 – a notable achievement for a startup that’s bootstrapped from day one.

“It’s a meaningful milestone,” Hlangwane adds.

“And it’s just the beginning. We’re building the infrastructure for a truly borderless future of work – where talent and opportunity meet without the old-world friction.”

As the lines between geography and employment continue to blur, platforms like Funti3r are showing how crypto and Web3 principles can empower a more connected, equitable, and efficient global workforce.
