Originally, the TON (Telegram Open Network) project was developed by the Telegram team under the leadership of Pavel and Nikolai Durov. The goal was to create a high-speed and scalable blockchain platform integrated with the Telegram messenger. However, due to pressure from American regulators (SEC) in 2020, Telegram was forced to abandon the project. After that, an independent community of developers continued the work, launching a network called Free TON, later renaming it to Everscale and ultimately to The Open Network (TON).
