Grayscale Investment Trust was established in 2013 by Digital Currency Group, which is the most powerful investment institution in the cryptocurrency space globally. Most of the top exchanges and projects in the crypto space you know have its involvement.
As a subsidiary of DCG, Grayscale manages multiple funds including BTC and ETH, both of which have passed SEC certification, becoming the only two legal investment options for institutions and retail investors in the U.S. stock market.
Grayscale holdings refer to a form of investment where fund managers use the funds in the fund to invest in stocks or bonds. Generally, it is applied in fund investments and is a common operational method in fund investments. Grayscale holdings mean investors acquire cryptocurrencies through purchasing Grayscale Asset Trust. Grayscale Asset Trust is an institutional-level investment tool that allows individuals and institutions to gain exposure to the explosive returns of the cryptocurrency market in a relatively simple way. This holding method is commonly used in long-term investment strategies for mainstream cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, with characteristics of risk diversification, leverage effect, and convenient trading, providing investors with diversified investment choices and profit opportunities.

Shortly after FIL was launched, Grayscale Fund included it in its holdings and made purchases. On March 15, 2021, Grayscale established the FIL trust product, purchasing for the first time near $80 on March 17. Over the following two years, Grayscale spent a total of $10.27 million on 34 FIL purchases, accumulating about 110,000 FIL, with the highest purchase price being $170 and the lowest being $19, resulting in an average cost of about $90.

Following is the year 2024, one year after; from 2021 to 2022, there were a total of 34 increases, purchasing about 110,000 FIL; in 2024, there were a total of 32 increases of FIL, with a total of 1,752,029 FIL increased, with major increases occurring on March 29, 2024, purchasing 351,900 FIL; on April 10, 2024, purchasing 101,800 FIL; on April 27, 2024, purchasing 199,800 FIL; and on May 29, 2024, purchasing 293,700 FIL.

Why did Grayscale Fund start buying FIL in large amounts again? Professional institutions prefer 'right-side trading' when investing, meaning they enter the market only when a trend is confirmed, so they are not buying at the 'lowest point,' but rather at a point of 'certainty.' Perhaps Grayscale views the current position as the bottom range for FIL; although the fundamentals haven't improved significantly, they aren't getting worse, and the certainty for a positive future has increased, leading them to continuously absorb chips. This 350,000 down is enough to prove that Wall Street has a strong consensus on FIL.

Note: Grayscale will not sell the digital assets managed by its trust, and there is currently no redemption mechanism. A decrease (negative value) in the chart indicates annual fees deducted periodically by Grayscale. The total assets managed by Grayscale Trust fluctuate with the price of the cryptocurrency.
