According to Cointelegraph, Bitcoin developer John Carvalho proposed BIP-177, suggesting changing Bitcoin's unit from satoshis to a more easily understandable form. This proposal faced opposition, with critics arguing that satoshis are not harder to understand than cents in dollars.

Block Inc. CEO Jack Dorsey supports this change, believing that satoshis are too complex for newcomers. Swan Bitcoin CEO Cory Klippsten and Byte Federal Product Director Michelle Weekley oppose it, arguing that people can understand satoshis in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin virtual machine founder Robin Linus pointed out that Bitcoin's creator Satoshi Nakamoto stated in 2010 that the display of Bitcoin units could be changed to improve usability.
